The BioTecture BioWall™ is a unique hydroponic modular living wall system, which moves the concept of green walls to a new level of sophistication and reliability. The BioWall™ uses a physically stable,
chemically inert hydroponic growing medium which provides huge water storage capacity, delivered to the plants by a computer controlled, remotely managed system, providing the precise delivery, retention and removal of water vital to the long term stability of any living wall. Nutrients are added automatically in precise measurement to meet the plants’ demands, whist surplus water is drained independently, i.e. not into the panel underneath, so avoiding the build up of excess water (and surplus mineral salts) in the lower wall sections, which otherwise causes so many problems for green walls.
The plants selected are a range of hardy evergreen perennials, grasses and ground-covering shrubs which have proved their performance on BioTecture walls. A full biological control programme is worked out on every wall to minimize the problems of pest and disease, with susceptible varieties of plants being eliminated from use. Plants are chosen to enhance the biodiversity of a site by providing a wide range of flowering types and times to encourage insects and birds. Nest boxes can be built into walls to encourage small birds such as wrens and sparrows, and also bats. Green walls can add points to the ecology rating for a BREEAM assessment.
Mobilane living walls enable specifiers to bring a green environment directly into their planning without the loss of land or space to create instant living, vertical architecture.
Absorbing 6g/m2 of sub micron particles from the atmosphere annually, 23m2 of a Mobilane living wall will absorb the equivalent pollution of an average city tree, improving our everyday living environment.
The Helix Mat is a new ground covering and soil stabilization solution from Mobilane. Available in 1 sq. metre sections, each containing 16 mature, well-established plants grown within a coconut fibre base to provide all the nutrients needed. Mats are pegged to steep slopes and embankments where maintenance would be difficult, time consuming and possibly dangerous to access, eliminating any costly maintenance programmes, to give an attractive, weed free, all year round ground covering solution.
The ANSystem from Aldingbourne is a patented soil and compost based living wall system. The wall is made up of modules, measuring 500mm tall by 250mm wide, each holding 14 plants. The modules are hung on horizontal fixing bars, typically underlaid with a DPM membrane. Modules are
planted up to 2 months before their delivery date so arrive as a fully mature, ready to install wall.
The walls are irrigated using horizontal drip lines connected either to a rainwater harvesting system or mains water supply via a ‘break tank’ or ‘type BA non return valve’ to conform with water regulations.
MMA is the sole UK agent for Jakob’s stainless steel wire ropes, rods and stainless steel mesh systems.
Living walls provide an environmentally friendly, sustainable solution for design and construction professionals. Drawing on combinations of products from our extensive range, our Green Wall system allows architects to achieve a variety of designs on the vast majority of building structures - achieving solutions that provide a range of aesthetic, performance and cost benefits.
Each component in our range is manufactured from High Grade 316 Stainless Steel. This gives complete quality assurance for the whole life of a building – making the system suitable for even the harshest environments, including coastal applications.
